First Day Hike

Start the New Year right!
Join Smithgall Woods for the annual “First Day Hike” where we will walk from the visitor’s center to the primitive cabin on the cottage side of the park where there will be plenty of hot chocolate, tea, and cookies to greet you! Once at the primitive cabin, hikers will have the option to continue on to Dukes Creek Falls.
The hike from the visitor’s center to the primitive cabin is a mild 1.2mi (one way) on a paved road. the additional option to Dukes Creek Falls will add another 2.6 mi to the total hike. This portion of the hike it on a dirt-packed trail, and does include inclines.
There is no registration limit or fee for participation. If you are planning on hiking with us, please call the visitor’s center at 706-878-3087 so that we may ensure we have enough cookies.
$10 parking fee applies
